Serco ASP provides a comprehensive Catering Service of chilled and frozen food to over 30 hospitals encompassing more than 140 wards and departments.  We provide over 5,000 meals each day and deliver 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Our chilled and frozen meals use fresh seasonal ingredients and are designed by a team of in-house dieticians.  We ensure every meal meets the highest nutritional standards and accommodate specialist requirements including diabetic, texture modified, ethnic and gluten free diets.

The Food Service consists of:

  • Provision of a minimum 2 week menu cycle to facilitate good patient choice
  • Freezing processes offering seasonal produce all year round
  • Special diets – renal, vegetarian, vegan, pureed meals and soft diets
  • Ethnic diets – including Halal and Kosher
  • Chilled salads, sandwiches and sandwich fillings
  • Nutritional and dietary information provided in accordance with the Dietplan 6 System
  • Provision of dietary and nutritional advice
  • 99% of packaging materials are recyclable, with cardboard tertiary packaging made from 80% recycled materials.

Delivery of meals

The service is delivered through a fleet of bespoke dedicated vehicles with both chilled and frozen compartments, supported with a tail lift unloading facility.  Deliveries can be made to a bulk drop/distribution point or directly into refrigerated ward storage.

Management support consists of:

  • Management support at local catering operational meetings
  • Maintenance of a full food hygiene audit trail for all food items
  • Menu management support.

Accreditations

The service has the following accreditations:

  • Food production facility is NHS approved by the NHS Supply Chain auditors STS
  • ISO 9001: 2008 certification for the development, manufacture and distribution of cook chill and cook freeze prepared food
  • ISO 14001: 2004 Environmental Management Standard.
